3 Tips to Make You a Better Fisherman – Fishing Bait Tips

By Veronica Carrillo | December 23, 2009

Do you want to catch more bass? Here are the five most important bass lures to keep in your tackle box if you want to drastically improve your success rate and catch more bass. The most effective bass lure you should include in your fishing tackle is the good old plastic worm. Plastic worms come in all sizes from 3 inch to the jumbo foot longs and in a multitude of colors. If you want to catch the big bass keep a few dozen different shapes, colors, and sizes in your arsenal. Plastic worms can be used by themselves or as a trailers, you can add weight to it and fish deep or go without the weight and hit the weeds and stumps, any place bass can hide the worm will draw them out.

The next type of lure I always stock in my tackle box is the spinner bait, just like the other lures in your tackle box keep different colors on hand, these are very versatile lures you can fish slow or fast, shallow or deep, spinners are flashy eye candy for bass.

The bass jig is another piece of fishing tackle I never leave home without, small in size but big on presence when fishing for bass. By it self or with a trailer keep an assortment of these on hand, they are great for fishing around rock piles and ledges and should be in every tackle box.

Your Baits Aroma Must Not Include Your Aroma – You’ve undoubtedly been exposed to many fishing bait tips, and this simple tip is easily one of the most important. Every human being emits scents that are easily detected by fish. Many species of fish have very sensitive senses of smell and will avoid baits that don’t ’smell’ right. As a live bait angler, you don’t want these scents to be on your bait. This means that you want to free you hands of these scents by washing them with odor neutralizing soap or by rubbing them in grass or dirt before baiting up. The bottom line is that you want the focus of your offering to be the bait and this includes the scents on the bait.

Although spinnerbaits probably do not resemble a natural food source, the combination of vibration, flash, and profile as the lure is pulled through the water make it attractive to bass. The spinnerbait is one of the most versatile bass fishing lures available. You can fish them shallow, deep, and anywhere in between. If you do not have a few spinnerbaits in your arsenal, than I would recommend getting one or two and give them a try. Oh, and one other thing, not only do bass like them, but pike like ‘em too. Be ready.

Always try to keep an assortment of colors, shapes, and sizes handy, bass may be more attracted to one color than another. There are many more lures that can be used to catch bass but by having these five bass lures in your tackle box your success rate will drastically improve. William Langrick is an extremely successful well known angler that competes in both fresh, and saltwater tournaments with more than 30 years experience in the art of fishing.

Some Good Carp Fishing Bait

By Peter Hooper | December 22, 2009

You need some good carp fishing bait if you want to land yourself a big one. Most people love the challenge of reeling in a big carp. They’re known as good fighters and make for a really fun time. Since they’re bottom feeders most people won’t eat them. But if you cut the mud-line out, which is an orange streak down both sides of the meat, you can eat them as safely as you can eat catfish.

Over the years in the little town where I grew up, fishing was part of our lifestyle. It gave us something to do and kept us out of trouble. So we learned a lot about it since we were all very competitive. Landing the biggest carp was always a fun challenge and gave us many days of good memories out fishing with our friends. One of the things we always had fun with, was finding the best baits to use to beat the other guys. I have three main baits that are proven to be successful for catching carp.

The first good bait I want to share with you is what we call a ‘dough ball’. It’s made from ‘Shredded Wheat’, which is a cereal we ate growing up. You simply take one of the shredded wheat biscuits and dip it under the water, and then start mashing and molding it into a round ball. It may take a couple of dunks to get it right, but when you finish you have a round ball that will hold together fine in the water. Then sink your hook into the center until you can’t see it, and cast it out. The big carp really love these things.

Most any angler, experienced or not, knows that worms are good fish bait. But the truth is, different worms are best for different types of fish. You have night crawlers, wigglers, stripers, and red-worms that all have their place and can be used for carp too. But I’ve found that the best worms for carp are green-worms. These worms can be found in the dark mud along the riverbank that looks like big cracked mud slabs. Trust me, you’ll catch more carp with these than you will with any other type worms.

For many years carp fishing was a favorite activity around my hometown. It’s really a thrill to hook one of these big fighters and land him on the bank. The average size we usually catch are from six up to twenty pounds, but there have been some thirty pounders caught now and then. They grow to be very big and give you a fight that you won’t soon forget. I have a lot of good memories from carp fishing that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

The third bait that slays the big carp, is also used as a good bluegill bait. It can be found in any grocery store. It’s simply a can of sweet corn. Yes, sweet corn is as good a bait for big carp as anything going. You just load up the hook, one kernel at a time until you’ve got it covered, and then cast it out and sit back and wait. Carp love corn, and you shouldn’t have to wait long before you get a bite.

Now that you know some good carp fishing bait, then you need to get out there and test them for yourself. I’m sure you’re going to find that what I’ve said holds true. Carp have a real hard time resisting these three baits, and you’ll have a hard time resisting using them often once you give them a try. So good luck, and hope you catch some big ones
